Commonsense Childbirth Annual Fund
We have found a new space for our Easy Access Women's Health Clinic!!!
We continue to need financial support for relocation costs, storage, attorney fees, new rental space deposits, re-licensing, re-credentialing, inspections, patient bus passes, and so on.
The absolute blessing of a safe environment for moms and babies, located close to the delivering hospitals that our families choose for their birth, along with the generosity of the doctor who has stepped forward to smooth our path to relocation - cannot be expressed with mere words. I remain humbled by the kindness and interest of friends and families, both new and long-term, who have journeyed with us through the ups and downs of this mission. We can't count how many chunky babies, robustly healthy moms, and empowered dads have passed through our hands - but I am clear that we couldn't continue without ALL who share in the vision and are not shy of this heavy lifting.
Two months ago the ceiling fell down n one of our exam rooms - we know how very blessed we are because no one was in the building, let alone on the exam table!! Unfortunately our landlord continued in the same 'sure, yes we are on it, we will fix it' lip service mode that he reverts to whenever put upon to take care of his tenants. Yet there we were, faced with torrential Florida rain most afternoons, and a clear view of the sky when we look up through the gaping hole that was left, probably since Hurricane Irma.
For the health and safety of the women and families that we serve I have closed and relocated the Orlando/Pine Hills office. We have scrambled to accommodate the moms by running the EasyAccess clinic from The Birth Place site these last couple of months, managing staff shortages, running up and down the hall, sharing space and resources, corralling the toddlers, while still delivering birth center babies AND me managing to keep up with my wild travel schedule.
After two and a half years of building deep into this community, we had to temporarily walk away, breaking our word that we would be there, no matter what. We have had fewer and fewer women make it out to to our birth center, (not on a bus route, going further out of Orlando) yet we remain one of the only maternity safety net providers for Central Florida, and for the nearly 1000 patients who have been accessing our services annually. This upheaval comes at the worst time - as we usually see our clinic bursting at the seams, and we see the women and families truly beginning to trust and depend on our standing with them in partnership for healthier outcomes. We have added an additional Portuguese language and Spanish language clinic to this new site and will continue our Spanish language clinic at Winter Garden.
